As part of its continued growth, an experienced Senior Backend Engineer / Architect with a strong platform engineering focus is sought to elevate the backend and cloud architecture to the next level of scalability.

In this role, you will combine software engineering, architecture, cloud infrastructure, reliability, and developer productivity, making a significant contribution to reducing technical debt while sustainably improving performance and scalability.

Your Responsibilities:

• Further development and optimization of backend services using Python, Django, Django REST Framework, and FastAPI
• Refactoring and modernization of existing systems to reduce technical debt and improve maintainability
• Applying modern architectural principles such as:
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
  • Modular monolith and microservices principles
  • Hexagonal architecture
• Design and optimization of RESTful APIs and backend integrations
• Optimization of PostgreSQL schemas, query performance, and scalability
• Working with asynchronous and event-driven systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or comparable technologies
• Contributing to internal platform services and self-service solutions for developers
• Operating and further developing the cloud infrastructure on AWS, particularly:
  • EKS
  • S3
  • SES
  • Lambda
• Using Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform in line with modern infrastructure-as-code practices
• Optimizing CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes with tools such as GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or comparable solutions
• Expanding observability through logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting
• Ensuring security, access controls, and compliance requirements
• Close collaboration with Product, Frontend, QA, and other engineering colleagues in an agile setup
• Ensuring high quality standards through clean code, testing, code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing
• Using modern tools such as AI coding assistants and automation to increase efficiency

Your Profile:

• More than 10 years of experience in backend software development, ideally with architectural responsibility
• Strong practical experience with Python and Django
• Experience with Django REST Framework and designing RESTful APIs
• Experience with FastAPI or willingness to develop deep expertise
• Deep understanding of software architecture, scalability, and maintainability
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Domain-Driven Design
  • Modular monoliths or microservices
  • Hexagonal architecture
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (schema design and performance tuning)
• Productive use of RabbitMQ, Kafka, or comparable messaging systems
• Good knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
• Practical experience with AWS, ideally including EKS, S3, SES, and Lambda
• Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
• Know-how in CI/CD and deployment automation
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or comparable solutions
• Very good English skills; German is a plus
• Pragmatic engineer with openness to new tools, patterns, and technologies
